The Stratagem EH-4 Electrical Conductivity Imaging System is a joint venture between Geometrics Inc. and Electromagnetic
Imaging Inc. (EMI), and uses the magnetotelluric (MT) method to measure subsurface conductivity.
High resolution electrical conductivity imaging is achieved for depths between 10 to 500 metres, and conductivity
information is calculated from measurements of surface electric and magnetic fields along a series of profiles.
STRATAGEM obtains depth information at one site setup by measuring signals over a wide frequency range.
Deep structures (more than 100 metres) are imaged using source fields provided by background magnetotelluric signals or conventional CSAMT sources.
For shallow features a new low power, portable transmitter is used to supplement the background signals.
STRATAGEM measures orthogonal electric fields and magnetic fields which are processed to provide tensor impedance information for interpreting complex 2D structures.
The STRATAGEM data control, recording and display units are compatible with the StrataView multi-channel seismograph.
This means the operator can also record multi-channel seismic data and electrical conductivity imaging data at the same location, with
the combination of the Stratagem and the StrataView being in the one compact unit.
